Before you pack that Jadeite dish away or list it for sale, check the recent selling prices for similar items. The data is right on eBay.
Research what your Jadeite dishes are worth on eBay.
You’re sorting through the attic – or maybe helping a loved one clean out a kitchen cupboard – and tucked inside a box, you spot a green dish. You flip it over and there it is: Fire-King stamped on the bottom.
If you’re wondering what that dish is worth, you’re not alone.
You don’t need an eBay account to research how much your Jadeite dishes are worth. You don’t need to be good with computers. All you need is a little curiosity and the dish you want to research nearby.

We’ll use a Fire-King bowl in this example, but these steps work no matter what Jadeite brand you’re researching – McKee, Jeannette, Mosser, or any of the newer pieces.

Step 1: Go to eBay.com
Open your internet browser and type ebay.com into the address bar. Once the page loads, you’ll see a big white search bar across the top.
You don’t need to create an eBay account just to research.

Step 2: Type in a basic search
In the search bar, describe the dish you are wanting to research the value of, for example, “Fire-King Jadeite bowl”.
Then click “Search”/magnifying glass button.
You’ll now see a bunch of current listings. But don’t get too excited yet. These are items currently for sale, and sellers can ask whatever they want. That doesn’t mean the items are actually worth that.
To find out what people are really paying, we need to adjust the filters.

Step 3: Filter for Sold Listings
Here’s the step most people miss – and it makes all the difference.
From your desktop computer: on the left-side of the page > scroll down to “Show only” > Completed Items. The search results will update automatically.
From your mobile phone: click “All Filters” > Show More > Completed Items. Select that, then click “Show results”.
Now you’re looking at completed listings, not just ones listed for sale.
Completed vs. Sold Listings
When you select “Completed Listings”, you’ll see:
- Items that sold (the price will appear in green)
- Items that didn’t sell (you’ll see the price in black)
Don’t ignore those black listings – they’re actually really helpful. They show you what didn’t sell, and that usually means:
- The seller overpriced it
- The photos were blurry or dark
- The title or description wasn’t clear (for example, no mention of Fire-King or Jadeite)
If five different bowls like yours were listed for $85 and none of them sold, that tells you something: the actual going rate might be closer to $50.

Step 4: Scroll and compare listings
You’ll now see a list of sold Fire-King Jadeite bowls – but not all of them will be the exact same as yours.
As you scroll:
- Look for listings that show the same size bowl (flip yours over and measure it if you’re unsure). Learn More: How to Identify Fire-King Jadeite Dish Markings
- Check if the pattern matches – swirl? shell? beaded edge? Learn more: How to Identify Fire-King Jadeite Dish Patterns
- See if the listing says Fire-King in the title or description
If you’re not seeing many exact matches, don’t worry. In Part 2, we’ll teach you how to search using different keywords to find more accurate results.
Step 5: Be aware – not all sold listings are equal
Let’s say you spot a bowl just like yours – same size, same swirl pattern – and it sold for $10. Then you scroll down and see another one that sold for $58. What’s going on?
That’s where the details matter.
Start checking:
- Condition – Did the cheaper one have chips or cracks?
- Photos – Were the photos blurry or dark?
- Description – Was the size listed clearly? Did they say “Fire-King” or just “green bowl”?
- Shipping – Sometimes low prices are balanced out by high shipping costs
The better the listing, the better the price.
In Part 3, we’ll teach you how to spot the factors that raise or lower a piece’s value – and how to get a true average.

- Filter by “Completed Listings” (not just Sold Items. Listings that didn’t sell are important to research too).
