When it comes to collecting Jadeite, hoarding is our guilty pleasure.
The most fun times can be had loading up the car with coffee and snacks, and hitting every antique store within a 50 mile radius.
#2 It Reminds Us of a 50s Diner
Unlike some collectors, you won’t find our Jadeite collecting dust; never to see the light of day. Just like a 50s diner, we use our Jadeite Restaurantware daily. At Fire King Grill, the whole point of our collection is to truly enjoy and share it with others.
#3 It Connects Us All
Entertaining with Jadeite never fails to impress; it’s always a great conversation starter.
Younger guests are drawn to the color and the farmhouse feel. Older guests are delighted by seeing something their family used in the kitchen when they were a kid.
Why is Jadeite Popular?
So what’s the obsession with something that was mass produced, made from scraps, and given away for free?
Jadeite glass was never valuable in terms of quality or its rarity when it was first produced. But over time it’s gained popularity for the same reasons we love it today.
For those of us who grew up with it, we don’t merely enjoy it for its lovely milky green hue, but how it connects us to simpler times and lots of fond memories.
As a child, Jadeite worked its way into my life at a very young age. Like many women of her generation, my Grandmother’s kitchen was stocked with depression glass – and one special piece of Jadeite. A Fire-King batter bowl. That bowl kick started my obsession with Jadeite.
I was captivated by its color even at five years old. Not even the many pretty pink and blue pieces of depression glass stood out to me like Jadeite did. I remember watching my Grandma prepare waffle and pancake batter, and delicious desserts in that bowl, so I have a lot of sentimental memories attached to it.
The depression and mid-century eras are now behind us, but we can still enjoy connecting with those times.
And that’s why Jadeite is truly meaningful.
